The American criminal justice system is emerging from several decades of intense law enforcement that aggressively incarcerated persons for even the pettiest of crimes. Proponents of criminal justice reform have taken a critical look at the effects of incarceration on an individual, national, and social level, revealing that the past several decades have done more harm than good. What are some of the effects of unfettered incarceration? How have these effects impacted our communities? What other options exist for deterring crime? How can you be a part of the change we all want to see in our country?
